HS-PROD
is a database for health sector reforms being developed by the
Central Bureau of Health Intelligence (CBHI), Ministry of
Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.
Why
create HS-PROD?
Many
States and Districts in India are experiencing similar problems in
the health sector and are looking for ways to tackle them.
There are many
good examples of health sector reform,
and lots of good ideas but until HS-PROD was developed, no easy
way to share this information.
HS-PROD aims to be an easily accessible way to publicise successes and share reform know-how to
solve common problems.
What
is HS-PROD ?
PROD
is a computerised information tool to be accessed mainly by
the Internet. HS-PROD
contains details of health sector reform options grouped by
subject areas
and objective. The
aim is to provide up-to-date and accurate information about
options or interventions, using a standard format; and to
organise such options systematically.
For
example, within the subject area of ‘infrastructure and
equipment’, there might be an objective of ‘maintenance of
health facilities’, linked with various reform options,
one of which might involve the transfer of maintenance powers
from the Public Works Department to some other local health
management body.
We
know that not everyone has access to the Internet, so we will
supply the HS-PROD index and details of reform options on paper
if necessary.
Who
is HS-PROD for ?
HS-PROD
is intended for use by, amongst others:
-
Government
of India Health and Family Welfare staff at Central, State
and District levels
-
health-related
NGOs and private sector providers;
-
development
partners (including donors);
-
academic
institutions.
Who
runs HS-PROD ?
HS-PROD
is being developed by the CBHI with the support of the
National Institute for Medical Statistics (NIMS), Indian
Council for Medical Research, New Delhi. They are also being
supported by the European Commission Technical Assistance
team. The database is regulated by a
PROD Management Group,
a group of health experts from the Government and
Non-Government Sectors, who approve each entry before
inclusion and meet quarterly to oversee progress. Since the information should prove useful to a wide
range of organisations, a variety of development partners may
eventually be interested in providing further management or technical
support, and/or funding.
How can HS-PROD help you ?
If
you are interested in playing a part in health sector reform,
then HS-PROD should provide you with relevant information, source
documents and
useful contacts.
How can you help HS-PROD ?
We
welcome additional reform options and comments on the existing
options, so that the database stays current, accurate and
useful.
